Mike McCarthy Next New Orleans Saints Head Coach Odds
With Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady now out of contention for the New Orleans Saints head coaching job, Mike McCarthy and Darren Rizzi suddenly find themselves as the co-favorites to land the position. Both were listed at 2-1 odds at BetOnline.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Saturday that Brady has pulled out of contention for the Saints job ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rapoport also reported that the Saints plan to speak with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as well as the former Dallas Cowboys head coach McCarthy.
Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football Network added that Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury "hasn't decided whether or not to take an interview with the Saints" and will start to look at his options once the team's season is over. Kingsbury was listed with long 12-1 odds.
Rapoport said Friday he believes McCarthy is a serious candidate for the Saints head coaching job.
"I think Mike McCarthy makes a lot of sense there," Schefter said. "He’s got deep ties and connections to the organization. We’ll see ultimately if he’s the guy."
McCarthy and the Cowboys agreed to part ways earlier this month with his five-year contract having expired on January 8.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that it became clear that it was best for both parties to move in different directions.
